LVHRD Announces 2nd Annual Master-Disaster Fashion Duel!

2005.Oct.26. Wednesday - by chantal

October 25, 2005, NEW YORK, NY — The LVHRD Foundation is pleased to present its 2nd Annual Fashion Duel as the next installment of its Master-Disaster event series. Two fashion designers will go head-to-head, masterfully creating instant attire on live models, in a design competition that will require them to think as quickly as they do creatively. With limited materials and only one hour to work, the Fashion Duel will demand hyper-creative grace under pressure from the chosen couture artists.

The Fashion Duel will highlight the innovative instincts involved in fashion design, while adding an exciting and competitive element to the way the designers' work is shown to the public. The following rules will be enforced for the event:

- The designers must use the provided materials only.
- The designers must use labeled “required elements” within the outfit.
- The designers will have exactly one hour in which to create their piece(s).
- Designers may employ the help of an assistant.
- The finished outfit must suggest, in some manner, the evening's theme.
- The models must be able to walk naturally in the completed ensemble without the design disassembling.

An initial coin toss will determine the choice of models, followed by a fast-paced hour of flying threads and fabric. Two judges will be on-hand to cast their votes based on a rubric including aesthetic presentation, attention to theme, and originality. Ballots from the audience will constitute a third, collective vote.

“New York's first Fashion Duel,” recalls B.H. Montgomery, Director of the LVHRD Foundation, “served as our debut of the Master-Disaster event series. It was enormously popular, and we look forward to exceeding member expectations with this year's revival.” By putting these designers on stage and placing their talents in the spotlight, the Fashion Duel will continue the tradition of LVHRD Master-Disaster events, in which competitors wage war with their creative talent, wit, and strategy.

LVHRD most recently produced the Vending Machine Challenge, where dancers from the NYC Ballet faced off against staff from J. Walter Thompson to eat the entire contents of two vending machines (approximately 6 pounds and nearly 14,000 calories of junk food classics). Other past events include Battle of the Moves (a tournament-style dance-off), Science vs. Beauty: Battle of the Minds, Master-Disaster Architect Duel, and the first Master-Disaster Fashion Duel.

LVHRD has been covered in the New York Times, TimeOut NY, The New York Post, Flavorpill, and on CNN
