Thank You Dewars

This day in history . . .

2006.Dec.8. Friday - by lvhrd

Tuesday was certainly a blast, as Chantal recently pointed out, but there is still much to celebrate!
As you head out for the first night of what will be an absolutely FRIGID weekend, be mindful of the following anniversaries taking place today. You will be author of several conversational triumphs once you remind your friends that:

-Jim Morrison would have turned 63 today, were it not for the rather unfortunate, if not mysterious, series of events that took place in France the night of his death. Those familiar with Wayne’s World 2 understand Mr. Mojo Risin’ to be wandering rock and roll heaven - a vast sand dune - with Sammie Davis Junior as we speak.

-The Eagles seminal concept record Hotel California turns 30 today. The first to feature Joe Walsh as an official Eagle, this is one album that Papa Dukedoms listened to with his headphones on, if you catch my meaning. Is the title track about Vietnam? Satanism? Drug addiction? Jethro Tull? There are arguments out there for each; tonight your goal should be figuring this one out once and for all.

-Today marks the 26th anniversary of John Lennon's murder by Mark David Chapman. Music, political activism, and Catcher in the Rye would never be the same. For those of you brave enough to brave the cold, this is certainly the day - if not the weekend - to visit Strawberry Fields in Central Park to pay your respects to The Walrus.

-15 years to the day since the Soviet Union dissolved. Gorbachev, his naevus flammeus, and one of the greatest achievements in the history of graphic design are all sorely missed. Tonight, throw down some vodka to honor the last great bastion of socialism, incredible land mass, and outright space exploration.

There’s a lot to celebrate, dear readers! Enjoy your weekend.
