PopRally Wants You to be Cultured and Look at Some Art

2007.Jan.10. Wednesday - by lvhrd

PopRally, MoMA’s charming little outpost in the social scene, has some suggestions for us to take a gander at in this month of January. So tear your eyes away from that youtube video of the talking cat and look at some REAL art.

In addition to the Doug Aitken video installation, there is also an installation done by Icelandic artist Katrin Sigurdardottir currently on view at P.S. 1. Titled High Plane V, it’s a site specific installation which requires viewers to go up ladders to actually see the piece. Anything involving ladders makes it art in
our book - but good art? That’s up to you to decide, so go check it out.

There’s a film series going on as well, with MoMA presenting a selection of work involving the cintematographer Sven Nykvist, who’s better known as the “Master of Light” in the film community. Among the films being shown are ones he worked on with directors Ingmar Bergman and Woody Allen.

We have our eyes, however, on the museum’s premiere of the restored version of Eraserhead, David Lynch’s cult classic film of “dark and troubling things.” Seeing the film without the little specks of dust on the screen will surely make it easy on these x-shaped eyes of ours.

You can get the schedule and info for all the above here and here, and here.
