Whole foods ethical trade guarantee

In order to meet shoppers growing concern about ethical and responsible trade, Whole Foods Market will supplement the line of products already Fair Trade Certified with its own sticker of approval for ethically sourced goods that meet strict requirements for quality, wages, and working conditions. The label will be called the Whole Trade Guarantee. By paying a premium to sell Whole Trade goods in their stores across the nation Whole Foods hopes to give farmers and producers a chance to expand their methods of sustainable production.

Whole Foods announced it will be working with TransFair USA and the Rainforest Alliance to ensure that the Whole Food Guarantee criteria are verifiable. One percent of the retail sale of each Whole Trade Guarantee product sold will go towards the Whole Planet Foundation, created to fight poverty in developing nations by providing grants for small loans for female entreprenuers.
