Democratic rescue dawn in 2009 unlikely

2007.Aug.2. Thursday - by lvhrd

We wished we shared Brent Budowsky’s optimism about Democratic transformation in 2009. From The Huffington Post:

“In January of 2009, there will be morning in America and throughout the free world when a new Democratic President is inaugurated.

Imagine when America no longer spends our national political life trapped in endless war and a government of perjury and pardons, corruption and coverups.”

Is he living in the same country we are? While we don’t agree with the other extreme, that Bush will cancel the 2008 elections, we don’t think 2009 will see the dawn of a new hope.

When, during the Republican’s nearly 8 years of power, have the Democrats put up anything but a weak, mumbling resistance to the Bush regime’s power grabs, war, and unconstitutional executive privileges?

Even if we do swear in a Democratic president in January ’09 backed by a Democratic congress it will be nothing more than a superficial change. We have one ruling party in this country–an oligarchy–run by men and women who are interested in the concerns of the American people only so far as it enables them to retain power.

Can’t blame them really. We haven’t given our government reason to believe the people in this country are a force to be reckoned with for a long time.
