NO MORE WIRE HANGERS!
There was the intended controversy, backlash and praise; Gothamist picked up the story today.
We went back and looked at copyranter’s post about the billboard. A commenter wrote: “Politics out of advertising!!!”
We couldn’t agree less. Political advertising is indispensable to understanding the world in 2007.
Politics is advertising, and understanding–agreeing or disagreeing or being moved by advertising–is essential to traversing and de-codifying the corporate infrastructure which surrounds us.
We are born into a nest of advertising. We learn to understand it as we learn to understand ourselves; often we understand advertising better than we understand ourselves.
So much of our identity is caught up in advertising, that to remove politics from ads (if it were possible) would cause a massive identity crisis.
