I’m sad. The first restaurant I loved in New York will be closing sometime very soon.
22 years ago Florent opened in the Meat Packing District. This was when the area was mostly meat packing plants and S&M clubs. Today, Florent is in danger of becoming another victim of an insane real estate market in an insane neighborhood.
Florent’s landlord is raising the…

Philadelphia outfit The Roots make good on Leap Day by premiering their newest video. Hot on the heels of Kanye’s Flashing Lights clip, this is the second brooding video in just as many weeks to conclude with a violent act played out off-screen.
Black Thought’s rhymes are as skillful as ever, though he is ending paired couplets with N-bombs at…

Not the right Max and not the right costume, but the mood is just where you want it to be.
Unfortunately, it looks like this may be one of the last times you see WTWTA in this light: Warner execs have all but decreed that it be re-written and re-shot minus Spike Jonze and Dave Eggers.

This mosaic tile composition technique is in the vein of how our storytellers will create narratives at PHTHRD II. Not exactly the same, but gives you an idea of the direction we’re headed.
Three artists in various storytelling fields will use a certain type of photography to construct large-scale narratives on March 25th.

Because it made kids cry, Warner Bros has decided that Spike Jonze’s Where the Wild Things Are needs to be taken back to the drawing board, not only to be re-shot but possibly re-written as well, without Dave Eggers.
Test audiences saw the first cut and declared it too dark and menacing for children; studio executives apparently balked at Jonze’s…

Last night I had dinner at Tasting Room on Elizabeth Street. During dessert a table of four middle-aged adults sat down next to us–three men and a woman. Two of the guys–Roger and Ken–were a couple; the other man, Tony, was married to the woman, Grace. They weren’t toursits; they were having dinner and talking about 9/11.
“It must have…

Tarsem’s The Fall came out in 2006, but no one saw it. Shot in 23 countries and featuring thousands of cast members, the lack of cohesive content may have scared away distributors.
Luckily, The Fall did not vanish into oblivion, but has returned on the backs of David Fincher, Spike Jonze and a MAGNIFICENT from Roger Ebert.
It tells the…
