PHTHRD II: Champion Storytellers
2008.Mar.4. Tuesday - by lvhrd
The theme for PHTHRD II is storytelling: see, “the art of,” “the lost art of,” “the fleeting incandescent art of.”
Our three competitors–though not all professional photographers–are all gifted storytellers who will be using a kind of photography to create a pastiche narrative with the audience and exhibition space as characters, tack and mortar.
If we believe Tolstoy, there are only two kinds of stories: a man goes on a journey or a stranger comes to town. Everything from El Topo to Titanic has folks walking the path of St. Paul into the great unknown or looking sideways at a mysterious arrival (from the future? the past? an Oceanic flight?).
It’s the essential dramatic burst: how am I when I am not myself?–when you step outside the world you know, or when the arrival of a foreign body forces you to re-examine the way you live.
We have some outstanding talent lined up for PHTHRD II, who we’ll be announcing shortly. Hope to see you on March 25th.
In the meantime, read The Hebrew Scriptures. We hear tell they’re full of good yarns.
