Scott Kirsner of Cinema Tech has thrown together a comprehensive list of the sites that share revenue with video content providers and creators. Creating short videos and sharing them is a bodily function at this point, effortless and occasionally unexpected. But generating revenue - at least from the content side - is still difficult.

There is no formula thats appied across the board here. Each site is experimenting with its own way of giving back to the community that have bolstered their net worth to the billions. YouTube, for example, will only be paying a select group of directors, hand-selected by the company based on god-knows-what.

It’s exciting (?) to see this sort of thing take shape. The writers strike that locked up late-night television was born from this very idea. It seems just that the big hits online should benefit those that create them, deciding weather Exploding Diet Coke and Mentos should constitute a career has yet to be seen.

Also, this is a redneck ventriloquist who makes this issue all the more hairy: ACHMED THE DEAD TERRORIST. It’s one of the most-viewed videos, all time, in YouTube’s library.
