The Curations model: experts recommend.
The Search model: the crowd recommends.
The Social Network model: friends recommend.
The Curations model has been around forever - we call them critics. It’s the second two that are most exciting and relevant for our generation.
They are completely dependent on our willingness to experiment in the real world and share our opinions online. Used to be tough, but things we’ve made like twitter, yelp, and countless others have made collecting and averaging the preferences of millions a piece of cake.
The biggest breakthroughs of the last decade have been in this field - the things that let us find what we want mercury quick. iPod’s don’t sound good, they simply let you find the songs you want easier than anything else. Tivo doesn’t produce original content, it let’s you find the shows you love.
I want to search facebook for the best taco’s in New York. That would be sick.
