People want to play a song, not listen to it

“During the week in June when Mötley Crüe released “Saints of Los Angeles,” the first single from its new album, the song sold 14,000 copies on iTunes and 48,000 on Rock Band through Microsoft’s Xbox Live network.”
Such an amazing milestone. Our generation has not only demolished the way music is purchased (the death of the record store), but is now changing the way that it is experienced - plastic instruments in hand.
The next time you talk to your parents, try to explain to them that your Nintendo sells more records than your Macintosh.
All of this taken from the New York Times article dubiously claiming that Guns N Roses will be releasing a single from Chinese Democracy with Rock Band 2 when its released in September.
The album has cost over 13 million to date, more than ten years of production, and has become somewhat of an urban legend. Dr. Pepper has latched onto the maligned record, going so far as to offer a free can of soda to everyone in America should Axl release it during this calendar year.
