FSHNDL V: RECAP

A big thanks to everyone who came out to Williamsburg last night for FSHNDL V. As those of you who were there already know, Love Brigade and Hannah Shaw built dresses from scratch out of balloons, but Hannah really killed it. Those who saw the final product making its loving embrace of her model are already better, more design-minded members of society simply for witnessing it. (Even that dude in the inflatable horse costume.)

Another big thanks to Hannah, Alyssa, Jamie and Tiny Pants, our judges Steven Alan and Natalia Rachlin (and our…

FSHNDL V TALENT: HANNAH SHAW

We’re pleased to introduce Hannah Shaw as one of designers appearing in FSHNDL V next Monday.

Hannah is a clothing designer who approaches dressmaking as both a craft and an art form. She draws inspiration from juxtapositions — industrial and refined, organic and technological — to creates pieces that express themselves as garments when worn while still maintaining sculptural integrity. As hannahshawdesigns.com puts it, her “silhouettes are completely unique, edgy, yet classic.”

Hannah’s first collection was developed for her Division 3 project at Hampshire. Since graduating in 2007, Hannah has become manager…

WHAT’S GOING ON NOW?

In promotion of the Sierra Wireless Compass 597, the device’s Now Network provider, Sprint, has launched a ridiculously interactive widget-based site at now.sprint.com. And it brings you info on everything that’s happening at the moment that you never knew you wanted to know.

Dozens of constantly updating panels spout facts and figures, including that “In what other city was Mozart born?” is the tenth most Googled phrase today. (There’s a confused Music in Western Civ class out there somewhere with papers due tomorrow.)

But you can also learn about the…

Historic "election high," not "long term" enough for American morale

“Confidence is an intangible that in these times we have found is crucially important for the proper functioning of our financial markets and the economy,” said some nerd this past Tuesday, “Confidence is something that Barack Obama exudes.” This intangible confidence must be responsible for the DOW rising over 300 points. Too bad there wasn’t enough residual intangible left over yesterday to keep the DOW from nosediving over 450 points, totally erasing that bad-ass election day market boner. America, we need some confidence.

Since nothing exudes confidence like chuckling to…
