The upcoming Figment 2007: Island of Imagination on July 8th is a day-long festival of arts, performance, and creation on Governors Island. Figment is as much about using the islands' permanent installations (historic buildings, meadows) for creative interaction as bringing new art and sculpture onto the former military base.

The Arts Action League is producing Figment in collaboration with pureproject. The festival is free to all, and you're encouraged to bring your own food and drink for a picnic on the giant lawn.

If you'd like to participate in Figment but don't have an idea for a project, you can volunteer to help out for the day.

Utterly related to Figment, The Park at the Center of the World: Five Visions for Governors Island on Monday, June 11th, is a panel discussion with architects and city planners about the potential for the development and preservation of Governors Island.

You must RSVP to attend Five Visions, organized in part by AIA and the American Society of Landscape Architects.
