A last minute heads-up on what looks to be a very resonant event: the second annual Asian Contemporary Art Fair opens to the public tomorrow and runs through Monday.

Sneeze Magazine, bigger is better, less is more, chess is back

Walking down the street the other day eating street-halal, we noticed the following box on the corner of Lafayette and Prince.

Who is that sexy lady? God Damn that’s a big image, that can’t be the cover of the magazine can it? Do I have $2 in change?

Those were the three questions that popped into my head as soon as I saw it. The answers: who cares, it is, and no.

Two days later however, I did have $2 in change and I bought one. It is awesome. It…

NIHALANI MAKES IT HIP TO BE A SQUARE

It could just be our love for duct tape, bright colors and NYC speaking, but we think we just might have a crush on Aakash Nihalani. He’s the fella who’s been sticking some very rad shapes around town since the summer. And if his recent Flickr updates are any indication, the cold isn’t slowing him down.

Nihalani’s all about “highlighting the unexpected contours” that the city’s had all along. This means you’ll find his work serving as platforms for subway musicians or emphasizing the brickwork we’d otherwise overlook.

Now, seeing Nihalani’s…

What in the lord’s name is a Rumplo?

Do you like “artist t-shirts”? Does the phrase “limited edition artist tee” make you whip out your wallet and start typing all of your credit card numbers at once? What about “limited edition, hand-screenprinted, Obama poster”? Just kidding! Stop typing your billing address and calm down. We have no Obama posters here.

Back to t-shirts. They are awesome! They are even more awesome when they don’t say “keep staring and I might do a trick,” or “I don’t hear voices, I talk to ghosts”. Seriously Hot Topic, you are ruining the…

ART IN RESIDENCE AT THE DREAM HOUSE

Is the image above making your brain go bananas? If so, how do you like them bananas? Because believe you me, there’s much more where that came from. And if you don’t like them bananas, here’s what you can put on the return label:

MELA Foundation’s Dream House
275 Church Street, 3rd Floor
New York, NY 10013

Because that’s where the high caliber bananas inducer pictured originated. La Monte Young and Marian Zazeela, the artists behind the Dream House Sound and Light Exhibition, call their work “a time installation measured by a setting…

A IS FOR ARMY MEN, ART AND ACIDIC

Alright, it’s tough to ignore the big time allusion to modern warfare here. But looking just at the tongue-in-cheek mangling of toys, which letters in the this alphabet are your faves?

We’re particularly fond of groundhoggin’ V, Rose McGowan-esque F and the breakdancers of W.

These soldiers were professionally repurposed by artist Oliver Munday, who’s done a ton of graphic design, including some very spiffy illustrations for the New York Times. As his site’ll show ya, his portfolio’s all sorts of rad.

And some major kudos to Command Save, where we first…

HOW MUCH IS THAT DOGGIE IN THE WINDOW?

An article in this month’s Pediatrics reports exotic, nontraditional pets expose children to diseases their immune systems are ill-equipped to handle. They’re thinking more along the lines of hedgehogs and reptiles, not so much hot dogs and chicken nuggets.

These are the sort of pets found through the end of the month at The Village Pet Store and Charcoal Grill between West 4th and Bleeker. In having read the past sentence, you are obligated to click the link and experience the location’s website. You won’t have a clue about what’s going on,…

Olafur Eliasson’s NYC Waterfalls: Yawn?

Eliasson’s waterfalls come down next monday (Oct 13th), and if you haven’t taken the time to go look at them, you are missing out. Furman st, south of Old Fulton is a sweet spot to see all four of them, and seeing all of them in the context of the city is the best way to go. They are sweet, regardless of what we may or may not have said in the past about them. Here is proof: “Hungry for fine art I’ll be the waiter at your table, I’ve…

3 2 Grains — People I’ve Slept With Whom I Don’t Presently Hate

Stan’s Cafe is doing a carbalicious show called Of All the People in the World. I say ‘carbalicious’ because it’s made out of RIIIIICE! (Margaret Cho… Anyone? Anyone? Nobody? Ok, nevermind.) How much rice? Tons, dude — “112 tonnes of rice – 6.7 billion grains – one for everyone on the planet,” to be exact.

The rice is placed in huge piles, individual grains, or specific shapes related to the statistic on paper labeled with what statistics the grains represent. For instance, people who have walked on the moon, The Beatles,…

Paris Hilton Finally Gets Paid for Porn

The Lazarides Gallery of the UK, most famously known for its representation of the graffiti artist Banksy, has opened its first U.S.-based exhibit in New York called The Outsiders. Amongst the 50 or so works are a collage of our revered president, Dubya, made of porno clippings and a new one of Paris Hilton done in the same fashion. Jonathon Yeo, the artist, says he is giving proceeds from the sale of the Hilton piece to Ms. Hilton herself, since she never got paid for “One Night in Paris.” Murals also…

Uh Oh… It’s Time For FSHNDL V

That’s right… we’re throwing our 5th annual timed fashion competition this October in Manhattan. Two designers enter a ring of fire to fight off a minotaur while designing couture on the fly. The losing designer will be thrown into a spike pit filled with snakes while LVHRD members pour boiling oil into the pit. This is all assuming we can get the permits.

Well… that’s about all the details we can give out right now pending permit approval. So we made these totally awesome promotional videos to keep you interested while…
