The Lazarides Gallery of the UK, most famously known for its representation of the graffiti artist Banksy, has opened its first U.S.-based exhibit in New York called The Outsiders. Amongst the 50 or so works are a collage of our revered president, Dubya, made of porno clippings and a new one of Paris Hilton done in the same fashion. Jonathon Yeo, the artist, says he is giving proceeds from the sale of the Hilton piece to Ms. Hilton herself, since she never got paid for “One Night in Paris.” Murals also…

Banksy built three stories of scaffolding in London to pull off this piece directly under a pair of CCTV cameras and no one did anything.
Wah-wuh.
Kind of a smack in the face for ol’ Banksy. Doubtful “big brother” was unaware of what he was up to, but they picked the perfect response: do nothing, turn the site into a landmark, put it in tourist guides to London. Don’t fight the rebels - embrace them, put them in museums, strip them of all revolutionary credibility.

Amelie Chabannes’ My Portrait of Your Identity opens Friday, March 21st with a reception at LUXE Gallery.
“My Portrait consists of thirty small self-portraits painted in slight relief in which smoke and flames articulate breath and gestures, armies of dots dance to form paisley patterns and then quickly dissolve in to a swirl and flourish of flesh. These dimensional paintings presciently lead into full small-scale sculptures of the artist’s head rendered in various incarnations which elude to different biological substances.”
Part of the exhibit includes a collaboration with Brazilian video artist, Antonia…

Due to extreme legal pressures on the Leah Keller and Naomi Gates galleries, Yazmany Arboleda’s “The Assassination of Hillary Clinton” and “The Assassination of Barack Obama” have been closed indefinitely.
Arboleda’s had quite a bit of media attention for the exhibits, so much so, that he seems to have angered the right people.
Here is an excerpt from a letter he sent LVHRD:
“Thank you for all of the support you have shown for the exhibitions I recently launched. Your interest in my work is greatly appreciated, especially your encouraging…

Twenty-one years ago a heart attack killed Andy Warhol while he was recovering from gallbladder surgery.
From drawing shoes at an ad agency to creating one the most hyped art collectives in history, Warhol’s art continues to sell everything from condos in Williamsburg to Orbit gum.
Once asked why he made copies of the same image over and over again, Warhol replied, “Because it’s easy.” He did not allude to any hidden meaning behind his iconic repetition:
“If you want to know all about Andy Warhol, just look at the…

Harper’s has a fascinating article on the meaning our President gleams from his favorite painting, “A Charge to Keep,” vs. what the painting actually depicts. Let’s just say the disparity is not shocking. But, oh is it fitting.
