Thank You Dewars

Wear My Sunglasses at Cannes.

When anyone, who is anyone, in the Advertising business kicks it to Cannes, it’s up to the kids who think on the edge of the box to have some real fun.  We really enjoy Ben’s approach to social consumption. We just hope nobody had pink eye.

VDO: FaceBook Gansta vs. Sheffield Quigley

Today we stumpled upon the Facebook gangster.  They really nailed it. The jokes, the rap style, we lost about 2 hours today looking and laughing at his viral gem.  We couldn’t help compare it to Black 20’s Sheffield Quigley.  Quigley was the first professional myspace photographer. This is no lazy sunday, but we really enjoy how they classify types of social network photos and how they might have been created.

Another great facebook video comes from the UK, set at someones door step, displaying the discomfort and possible downside to friending…

obama, you are…

This comes to us from our friends at thehappycorp, an experimental branding and design lab in NYC, after all the talk about Presidential Branding, they thought they would throw a hat in the ring. Watch the video here.  Word is there will be more to come.

Halo 3: killing spree at the ADC

The multimedia campaign for Halo 3 ate lunch and dinner at the 87th Annual Art Directors Club Awards, taking home 5 Gold Awards in Broadcast Advertising, Broadcast Art Direction and Integrated Advertising. It is one of the most decorated art projects in history.

For the launch the third game in the Halo series Bungie and Microsoft assembled a truly breathtaking breadth of diorama, video and audio that takes viewers through the Battle for New Mombasa where Earth’s forces clashed with the invading Covenant alien fleet.

The story of battle is…

Awful posters for Blindness had better not mean they’re butchering the movie

I mean, Optometry, really? Don’t you have to be able to see to read the letters?

But this movie’s about people going blind, so, no one will be going to the eye doctor, but even if they did: are you really promoting a novel by a Nobel Prize Winning author with OPTOMETRY CHARTS?

Incredible, such a sea change of cinematic and literary inspiration. The production meeting went like this:
“So. Blindness.”

“Yeah. No one can see.”

“No one?”

“Nope.”

“Alright, so, no visuals.”

“Well, it’s just a story. We have to…

These dangerous internet times

Sometimes internet video makes us feel like humble tradespeople listening to Orson Welles read War of the Worlds on the radio.

Are 50 ft tripod aliens really climbing out of trenches upstate? Is Who Needs a Movie? really accidental genius or a cleverly crafted viral goose from Fatal Farm?

Maybe Sharon and Fred aren’t even real people, just a pair of Jim Henson’s straw puppets.

But we hope they are, and we hope Who Needs a Movie? is two Canadians’ honest attempt at digital entrepreneurship. If it is real, Fred and Sharon are…

Man-shearing video

Earlier this week our friends at thehappycorp went under the blade on The Today Show in honor of Bearduary.

Most of the guys couldn’t bring themselves to lose all their hair, resulting in some creative staches and chops.

It seems like guys have finally figured out they can stop going to gyms, drink as much as they want, never shave, and still get girls: ladies like pattern balding and fuzzy bellies.

Medium Fucking Starch: Jawbone viral campaign

Bluetooth headset manufacturer, Jawbone has blown gold everywhere with their new viral video ad campaign, cooked up by our neighbors at Anomaly.

In this one a business man goes Patrick Bateman on some Asian laundry folk with horrifying results

Halfway through the video you’re wondering when the headset’s going to come in. And then it does. And oh. Amazing.

You can watch the other Jawbone ads here. They pretty much all have men meeting a gruesome end after disrespecting women. Well, almost all of them.

Official: Blu-Ray defeats HD DVD

With Best Buy officially recommending Blu-Ray to customers, and Netflix purging their HD DVD supply in favor of the Blu-stuff, it seems that the fate of home viewers is all but assured.

Head out and buy the proper player, sigh a sigh of relief, count the hairs on Legolas’ head thanks to the boosted definition, and do it all over again when the next media format comes out in two years.
