And by “awesome,” we mean “accessible to those with internet access, a functioning web browser, and the desire to encourage voter participation and discussion within their workplace.” But all that couldn’t fit into the given headline space.
As you might remember, a few weeks back, our buds at thehappycorp global created a landing page for the initiative, which asks employers help bring up voter turnout by giving their workers a mulligan for the day — with the understanding that they’ll be spending their time off weighing the issues one last time…

I had no idea it could be this bad.
Here I was, living my little Beowulf-y life, ignoring the political and socioeconomical trends of late and, apparently, I completely missed the election. And now, according to this video a friend just sent me, my non-participation has cost Obama the presidency.
The report claims there are Facebook groups like “10 Million Strong Against Beowulf Jones.” (I think I might’ve joined that one! I don’t really pay much attention to what I’m clicking on, either.) And I see little old ladies denouncing me…

Our pals at thehappycorp have just launched a new site where employers can go to high-five over giving their workers a day off. But this isn’t corporate recklessness and playing hooky we’re talking about. It falls more under the category of “Performing Civic Duties.”
For the moment, Take Off Tuesday broadcasts the unsettling stat seen above: that 47% of eligible voters under 25 didn’t participate in the last presidential election. (What? If there’s anything crazier than bosses celebrating that they’ve just sent everybody home, it’s that!)
In time, the site will feature…

Tune in to any which one of the networks tonight at 9 p.m. e.s.t. for the world premiere of Vice Presidential Debate 2008, starring Joe Biden and Sarah Palin. (Gwen Ifill guests / moderates in this episode.)
Set at Washington University in St. Louis, the reality show features the two contestants offering their takes on national and world issues. But there’s a catch: one of them will become the next Vice President of the United States of America! Oh snap!
With so much drama in the GOP — McCain is feelin’ the…

Yazmany Arboleda’s The Assassination of Barack Obama & The Assassination of Hilary Clinton returned yesterday for a 24 hour showing in a metal and cement storefront across from the NY Times Building on 40th street.
I was early to the opening. Maybe a dozen people stood around inside and upstairs, climbing stairs flanked by a big black cock. A DJ played songs. We drank juice.
Yazmany was thrilled. The Secret Service had come for him the day before while he was setting up the exhibit, masking all the art in brown butcher paper…

We get to pick a president after summer vacation! Don’t forget!
While we’re on the slip-n-slides for a few months, Future-Presidents will spend the summer distilling what The American People want, hate, and millions of dollars reminding us that they get the jist of our desires.

New York Governor David Paterson and MTA officials announced a new Green Metro Card in honor of Earth Day.
Not that the cards are recycled or anything - the word METROCARD is just written in green instead of blue and will be available in vending machines April 22.
Way to go MTA. Way to remind us of what-could-be-but-what-is-not.
Let’s recap:
The cards are exactly the same as before AND Paterson is blind, which, if the cards were actually any kind of sustainable, wouldn’t be an incontrovertible pitfall, but as it…

J.K. Rowling says that her lawsuit to stop publication of an unauthorized Harry Potter Lexicon is giving her writer’s block.
The “Lexicon” was created over seven years by Mr. Vander Ark, a trained librarian and Potter fanatic, said one of the defense lawyers, Anthony Falzone, during his opening statement. Mr. Vander Ark had read the seven-novel series nearly 50 times, the lawyer said, and for him, annotating the Rowling oeuvre was “a hobby, passion, labor of love.” Mr. Vander Ark is expected to take the witness stand later in the trial.…

An elephant in Burma paints an elephant holding a flower while a crowd of tourists coo in adoration.
If it is real (and it probably is), then the elephant has been taught to draw this exact picture with the flower coups de grace 1,000 times, making it all the more worthless and exploitative.
This is exactly the kind of thing that contributes to the horror of third world streets: desperate people hawking drawings done by animals to groups of German tourists who carefully step off the crumbling curbs to avoid…
