BIFOLD CNFLCT

Ryan Duffy & Derrick Beckles from VBS.TV and Stephen Koepfer of the American Sambo Association explore CNFLCT as a source of personal growth.

Gothamist interviews Anthony Lappé

Thrsdy Jan.17.2008 1:41pm | by settlement heart

Gothamist has an interview up with BIFOLD CNFLCT host Anthony Lappé about his graphic novel Shooting War. Set in 2011, the story follows Jimmy Burns, a young blogger sent to cover the still-bleeding conflict in Iraq after he captures a live suicide bombing at a Starbucks in Williamsburg.

Shooting War developed from a mix of Lappés experience as a journalist, his observations in Iraq and not so far-fetched imaginings of future cataclysm–the fruit of undead American economic hubris.

Something we’ve often wondered that Lappé brings up in the interview: why have there been…

SPTLGHT 04: Workshop Third Star Anniversary

Thrsdy Oct.25.2007 4:00pm | by settlement heart

It seems appropriate listening to Beggars Banquet while writing about Workshop, the design studio founded by Jessi Arrington, who at Workshop’s Third Star Anniversary party last night showed us her wedding cowboy boots.

“These are actually the boots I got married in!” said Jessi sitting atop a bank of Milton Glaser’s flat files. Mick and Keith would be proud.

Jessi started Workshop two years ago in a Carroll Gardens apartment with business partner and husband, Creighton Mershon, and Josh Stewart.

“We were all working 9-6 every day,” said Mershon, “coming home…

Columbian Devils Breath on CNN

Thrsdy Sep.27.2007 3:26pm | by settlement heart

CNN caught up with VBS.tv correspondent Ryan Duffy, one of our presenters at BIFOLD: CNFLCT last month, to talk with him about his experiences with the drug Scopolamine, or “Columbian Devil’s Breath.”

As part of a series for VBS.tv, Ryan traveled to Columbia to learn firsthand if the drug people claimed turned human beings into zombies could live up to its name.

What Ryan did to get the footage for the documentary was dangerous, reckless, and makes for a great story.

CNN calls “Columbian Devil’s Breath” “a perfect fit for the wild…

CNFLCT Poster Competition Champion: WORKSHOP

Wdnsdy Sep.5.2007 1:56pm | by Dave Franzese

To supplement August 28th’s BIFOLD: CNFLCT, LVHRD selected six graphic artists to create posters illustrating the concept, “Without conflict there can be no growth.” The elements used within each piece were drawn from Veer’s extensive library of fonts and images, and the results have been here on LVHRD for the past week.

Close to 1,000 of you voted, and with the results finally in, it’s time to congratulate WORKSHOP on their resounding win. The shoes, the boxes, the labels on the boxes; their poster had it all.

Apart from gloating rights,…

Thrsdy Aug.30.2007 9:00am | by settlement heart

Thank you to everyone who came to BIFOLD: CNFLCT.

It was an amazing example of how a group of motivated people can raise awareness of global conflict through creative collaboration.

Now you can vote for the posters in the Veer Poster Competition, those black and white posters you saw hanging up in the TriBeCa Gallery last night. Each poster was made by a talented designer in NYC around the idea that “Without conflict there can be no growth” using visual elements from Veer’s extensive library.

BIFOLD: CNFLCT blew the top off the mountain

Wdnsdy Aug.29.2007 12:27pm | by settlement heart

Last night LVHRD hosted BIFOLD: CNFLCT at the TriBeCa Gallery in Manhattan. Guests outside were greeted by a red carpet and a step-and-repeat where photographers snapped photos of them before they entered the gallery.

While attendees waited to take their seats they mingled to music by Turntable Lab DJs Telekinetic Kat and Lefty, checking out the posters mounted on the wall in the Veer Poster Competition, and enjoying drinks mixed by staff from the TriBeCa Cinemas.

Host Anthony Lappé, Executive Editor of the Guerrilla News Network, welcomed guests and started the dialogue…

LVHRD VDO: 043: BIFOLD: CNFLCT 1.0

Frdy Aug.24.2007 7:39pm | by settlement heart

To prepare for BIFOLD: CNFLCT we sat down with our old friends GOOD and BAD to see if they had changed any since the last time we spoke to them, sometime ago during our conflicted adolescence. Turns out they’re about the same, still pretty shallow without other moral standards like DOUBT and COMPASSION.

Fonts provided by Veer. GOOD: Candyscript; BAD: MT Arc Modern.

BIFOLD: CNFLCT Talent: Ryan Duffy

Frdy Aug.24.2007 7:00pm | by settlement heart

Vice correspondent Ryan Duffy will replace journalist Trace Crutchfield at BIFOLD: CNFLCT. Trace’s wife just had a baby and we are very happy he is taking the time to be with his family. Congratulations!

Ryan Duffy is the VBS.tv correspondent who most recently flew to Colombia to track down and sample the scariest drug on the face of the earth, Scopolamine.

Scopolamine turns human beings into zombies. Most people who know what it is are terrified to be in the same room with it, let alone GOING TO LOOK FOR IT…

We dig this duo, aka Single Life. They know how to work a party. Thanks to Turntable Lab for hooking us up with great DJs.
