LVHRD’s offices are close in the heart of Soho, and there are an increasing number of Chase banks in the area. I personally spend the occasional 10 minutes or so in line a few times a week. Behind the tellers, CHASE recently installed three synchronized hi-def screens that are generally filled with bubbly marketing messages pushing the latest product or service offering.
Just recently they were marketing their mobile alert service, which allows customers to text their account number to a short code and receive an instant balance on your account. The…

Power to the People.
Design Democracy is opening the doors to this years ICFF to anyone with a great idea. The website was founded by Detroit based design/build studio Context Furniture “to prove that mass customization is a viable alternative to mass manufacturing.” Anyone may submit a design, vote for their favorites, and chat about all things mass customized. The top designs will be prototyped and displayed at the 2008 ICFF in NYC.
Some of the highest rated designs come courtesy of LVHRD members. One of my favorites, Rocker Prototype 03 by HollerDesign, is…

We carefully transported the two models from ARCH DL IV back to headquarters where they were painstakingly photographed and rendered into these breathtaking panoramic videos.
But seriously, it’s hard to imagine these were both built entirely from plastic drinking straws, which, by the way, we really, really wanted to be totally white. We looked everywhere. Come to find, today of course, that this little Japanese place we like to frequent uses pure white drinking straws and would be happy to hook us up with their distributor. Sigh. Next year.
These videos…

Graffiti Research Lab built their own bullet time camera rig for a hip hop video they shot with Styles P, AZ and the Large Professor.
Not only is the video sick, but they left instructions on how to build your own ghetto rig.
Lots more pictures here; and then you have the video:

Here’s a video/costume rig that lets you watch yourself run around in the third person like you were in a video game. Apparently it’s also necessary to wear a Rollerball outfit and spiked helmet while you do this in a public park on a sunny day.
The idea is neat (you probably have to be the guy in the helmet to truly appreciate) but could use some mood modifications. It would have been cool to choose a landscape for the demo that fit the motif of the costume, suitably surreal. (via NOTCOT)…

From the LA Times:
Google has lauched a campaign using Google Earth to highlight the genocide in Darfur. In a satellite view of the world, a portion of Central Africa is lit up in an orange blaze. Marked with the words, “Crisis in Darfur,” clusters of flame icons mark the ravages of ethnic cleansing and unchecked warfare between government militias and rebels that have left more than 200,000 human beings dead.
Google collaborated with the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum to create the new Google Earth feature, which they hope will put…

Metal escalators are so overrated. They’re also highly dangerous and have terrible personalities. With their metal teeth and gnashing gums, a trip on the elevator can quickly turn into a trip to the local hospital if you’re not careful.
But to make the world a safer place for all is documentasdartistes.org, a site that showcases the art of complete and competent cardboard recreations. Though not functional in the slightest, the cardboard escalator of mention has a sleek look to it that appears real enough to ride on.
The foreign site also…
