Frdy May.25.2007 12:07pm | by lvhrd

Some light reading for you on this 90 degree Friday stretching into a 3 day weekend:

LVHRD MGZN 02 XCRPT 4 is an interview with Corcoran real estate flaneur and Chiat/Day veteran Dave Rogers by comedian Heather Fink. The pair talked via email about Dave’s idea of success, what he hopes his legacy will be, and why he idolizes Mos Def.

Download PRFLS: Dave Rogers from LVHRD MGZN 02 and see why Heather imagines him wearing Dockers slacks dipped in blood.

Full version of MGZN 02 available here.

MGZN 02 XCRPT, 3 of 10

This week’s excerpt from MGZN 02 is a luscious survey that takes you inside the noggin of LVHRD’s membership.

We wanted to know what kinds of games our members play (mind games, bed games), what time they go to bed, what they’re ready to destroy–so we did a poll and asked Chris Rubino to turn the results into pictures.

You can download MGZN 02 XCRPT 3, MMBR SRVY, right here. Or, if you prefer to view the survey in its natural habitat, download the full version of LVHRD MGZN 02.…

MGZN 02 XCRPT, 2 of 10

Frdy May.11.2007 12:03pm | by lvhrd

It’s already Friday! That means the second excerpt from MGZN 02 is ready for perusal. Actually, XCRPT 02 from doesn’t have much in it to read. It’s actually a sweeping audio tour of New Orleans by Rob Hudak called “Second City.” You could even close your eyes while you listen to Rob Hudak’s soothing tenor carry you down south to the land of flowering balconies and long goodbyes. But only after you look at the awesome collage.

Dave Hill: King of Miami

Tsdy May.1.2007 3:09pm | by lvhrd

Dave Hill is incredibly famous for hosting the Dave Hill Explosion. This is the same Dave Hill who hosted LVHRD’s ACTHRD and was featured in the first issue of MGZN. We wouldn’t know who else you’d think of when we say, “Dave Hill,” not some hypnotist, that’s for sure.

Perhaps because we’re under his spell, it’s easy for us to report that Dave’s new show, King of Miami, is premiering on the Mojo network next week.
King of Miami is the story of Dave’s quest to escape the flab of Midwestern existence,…

LVHRD MGZN 02 IS HERE

Thrsdy Apr.12.2007 8:35pm | by lvhrd

The second installment of LVHRD’s quarterly MGZN is finally here. This issue represents a lot of work and collaboration from LVHRD’s diverse membership, and the editorial staff is thrilled. Issue II explores the concept of ‘two’ through a range of interviews, reports, photo studies, feature length articles, and soundscapes. Donning Speto’s live painting from our second Bi-Fold event as its cover just seems to make sense, too.

Why read a post when you could read the real thing? Issue 2 is now available for download. Free. And be sure to check out LVHRD…

LVHRD VDO: 030: MGZN NTRVW 2.0

Thrsdy Apr.12.2007 8:33pm | by lvhrd

This week’s installment in the LVHRD VDO Series coincides with the release of Issue II of the LVHRD MGZN, now available for download. Through interviews, reports, photo essays, and feature length stories, this issue looks at the concept of ‘2′ and its many interpretations. For a feature article, writer Tobi Elkin followed two unsuspecting, and previously un-introduced, LVHRD members on a day of activities in New York. In an attempt to learn more about the chemistry of relationships, our camera crew and photographer was there. Oh yeah, we almost forget. Since these LVHRD…

Our friend Nicky Digital took some great pictures of LVHRD’s Master-Disaster VMC II the other night. Go see if you were smiling.

Look for Nicky in the upcoming issue of the LVHRD MGZN, and enjoy your weekend.

Media v. Construction: Architecture’s "Little Magazines"

Tsdy Feb.13.2007 10:30am | by Smokie LePlume

If you long for the days when architecture was as sensational as street art is today, run do not walk to Clip/Stamp/Fold: The Radical Architecture of Little Magazines, showing through February 26th at the Storefront for Art and Architecture. Featuring fantastic cover design, including everyone’s favorite gorilla and a skyscraper constructed from Swiss cheese (sound familiar?), as well as content from heavy-hitters like Bernard Tschumi and Kenneth Frampton, the little magazines emerged internationally in the 1960s and 1970s as young architecture’s response to a global atmosphere of political and social change. New…

More is Less

Mndy Feb.5.2007 10:57am | by lvhrd

Now I’m not saying smaller boats are better- I just can’t resist the motion of the ocean. And burritos. And mix-tapes. And teeny-tiny illustrations. They really turn me on. That’s why I’m totally hot for the Society of Publication Designers‘ Spot Illustration Competition.

If you or anyone you trade mix-tapes with has created small illustrations (5″x6″) in an editorial context (Printed publications? Yes! Advertisements? Sadly No. PDF Magazines? Yes yes! Books? No no no.)

Co-Chaired by Brian Rea, Art Director of The New York Times Op-Ed Page and Emily Crawford, Art Director…

Call For Talent

Tsdy Jan.23.2007 5:55pm | by lvhrd

LVHRD MGZN is in full-swing preparing for our second issue, and we are officially appealing to all LVHRD members to help us along. Just as our events are only as exciting as the members who participate in them, the more involved you are with the magazine, the richer the reading experience will be. The issue is already shaping up to be an incredible experience, one that will push the limits of what a “magazine” can do, but there are three specific user-fueled sections that we’d love you to take part in.…
