THE GHOST OF VALENTINE’S DAY PAST
2008.Oct.14. Tuesday - by Beowulf Jones
Ex Day is a new holiday concocted by CBS and 1-800-FLOWERS.COM. It’s partially in promotion of the network’s new show, The Ex List, centered on a flower shop owner who discovers via psychic that she’s already dated her future husband.
But Ex Day is also about reconnecting with the people — not necessarily our exes — we’ve lost touch with over the years. Anne O’Grady, exec. veep at CBS Marketing, says the tie-in “Ex Bouquet” is “a fun way to extend an olive branch” and help “reconnect and rekindle” our relationships.
Now, the oozy cheesiness / marketing tool combo going on here is more than enough to induce projectile vomit within the romance intolerant crowd. But hold off on heaving and think it through: is this really that weird an idea? Maybe you might not wanna get in touch with an ex, and maybe you might not want to lay out the dough for the officially authorized “Ex Bouquet.” But aren’t there folks you haven’t seen in ages that you might not mind seeing again? Just a teensy bit? Let us know how you’d do it.

If people aren’t in my life, there’s a reason. As such, the only time I am forced to see them are, unfortunately, at the funerals of mutual acquaintances or family members.
But, hey, there are flowers involved…
