84% OF STATISTICS ARE MADE UP ON THE SPOT, BUT THESE ONES WEREN’T.

2008.Oct.9. Thursday - by Beowulf Jones

Our pals at thehappycorp have just launched a new site where employers can go to high-five over giving their workers a day off. But this isn’t corporate recklessness and playing hooky we’re talking about. It falls more under the category of “Performing Civic Duties.”

For the moment, Take Off Tuesday broadcasts the unsettling stat seen above: that 47% of eligible voters under 25 didn’t participate in the last presidential election. (What? If there’s anything crazier than bosses celebrating that they’ve just sent everybody home, it’s that!)

In time, the site will feature more facts about voter turnout and allow companies to share that they’ll be closing up shop November 4th to let their employees go to the polls. Which would be a good thing. After all, the last time more than 60% of Americans voted in a presidential election, Sarah Palin was four years old.

So do your duty. Also, visit takeofftuesday.org.
