Thank You Dewars

Fill Burma with your voice

The protest of the despotic military junta in Burma has led to days of violence in the streets, including the death of a Japanese photographer in Yangon.

Buddhist monks, protesting the government’s disavowal of civil and human rights, led peaceful marches through the capitol city this week, backed by 100,000 civilians.

Burma’s government has responded with violence, raiding monasteries, beating monks, scattering protesters with clubs, and in at least one instance, opening fire into an unarmed crowd.

If we speak up now, there is a strong chance that world awareness will lead to…

Interference opens at Eyebeam Gallery

Opening tonight, Interference is a 10 year retrospective of Eyebeam Gallery supporting artists who create art using new technology.

We’re especially excited about this opening because our friends Evan Roth and James Powderly from Graffiti Research Lab have a part in the show.

GRL collaborated with LVHRD for BIFOLD: WLD STRTS where they exhibited the graffiti technology of the Night Writer and LED “throwies,” sticky luminescent bulbs you can throw where paint could never reach.

The opening party begins tonight at 6pm with a VJ performance at 8pm. Interference will run through November 10th.

Columbian Devils Breath on CNN

CNN caught up with VBS.tv correspondent Ryan Duffy, one of our presenters at BIFOLD: CNFLCT last month, to talk with him about his experiences with the drug Scopolamine, or “Columbian Devil’s Breath.”

As part of a series for VBS.tv, Ryan traveled to Columbia to learn firsthand if the drug people claimed turned human beings into zombies could live up to its name.

What Ryan did to get the footage for the documentary was dangerous, reckless, and makes for a great story.

CNN calls “Columbian Devil’s Breath” “a perfect fit for the wild…

DNCHRD III:VNYL: Believe

It was quiet around here today. Hoarse voices. Throbbing temples. But the beat goes on. Inside.

Last night at a warehouse space called Volume in Williamsburg where Dizzee Rascal once performed on the back of a semi-truck, Dewar’s Master-Disaster DNCHRD III: VNYL put the dance party back into the hands of the people.

NYC DJs, Robot Blair, Woodman, and DJ Elhaam, went head to head in a three round turntable battle using VNYL supplied by the audience.

Upon arriving at Volume guests were given a colored plastic ball which they would use to…

LVHRD’S DNCHRD III

In September 2006 at a warehouse space called Volume in Williamsburg where Dizzee Rascal once performed on the back of a semi-truck, Dewar’s Master-Disaster DNCHRD III: VNYL put the dance party back into the hands of the people.

THROW DOWN

DNCHRD III was a three-way DJ battle between NYC DJs, Robot Blair, Woodman, and DJ Elhaam. The catch: they could only spin vinyl provided by the audience.

VICTORY

The crowd voted with colored plastic balls, filling bins corresponding to their favorite DJ. Most of the balls ended up on the floor, however, and…

Graham Slick gallery show

LVHRD member Graham Slick took some amazing photos at PHTHRD a couple months ago.

He wasn’t actually part of the competition, but his images offer a uniquely shaded perspective of that night at Smack Mellon gallery.

On Saturday, October 6th, an exhibition of Graham Slick’s inktank photography is opening at 717 Studio in Greenpoint, Brooklyn.

Live music and cocktails will be provided. Stop by and see Graham’s work; he’ll be there, though we can’t vouch for his trademark pink tie.

FCTS: Graham Slick: 717 Studio: 717 Manhattan Ave #2A: Saturday, 6th October, 7-10pm…
