BIFOLD: CNFLCT Talent: Ryan Duffy

2007.Aug.24. Friday - by lvhrd

Vice correspondent Ryan Duffy will replace journalist Trace Crutchfield at BIFOLD: CNFLCT. Trace’s wife just had a baby and we are very happy he is taking the time to be with his family. Congratulations!

Ryan Duffy is the VBS.tv correspondent who most recently flew to Colombia to track down and sample the scariest drug on the face of the earth, Scopolamine.

Scopolamine turns human beings into zombies. Most people who know what it is are terrified to be in the same room with it, let alone GOING TO LOOK FOR IT IN BOGOTA.

Ryan’s trip is documented in a 9-part video series for VBS.tv called Colombian Devil’s Breath. Here’s Ryan talking about his experience:

All elements of humor and novelty were rapidly stripped away during my first few days in town. After meeting only a couple people with firsthand experience, the story took a far darker turn than we ever could have imagined and the Scopolamine pranks I had originally imagined pulling on my friends seemed beyond naive and absurd. By the time we were wrapping things up and preparing to leave the country, I couldn’t wait to get as far away from Colombia and that drug as possible.”

At BIFOLD: CNFLCT Ryan will be speaking about his experiences traveling to the most conflicted places on Earth for Vice and reporting the stories that other news organizations are scared to touch.

We’re thrilled Ryan is going to be collaborating with us for BIFOLD: CNFLCT. On Tuesday, August 28th he will join Sambo martial arts expert Stephen Koepfer and host Anthony Lappé for an evening of discourse and debate on the way conflict shapes and challenges the artistic narrative.
