Repeal Day Auction Winners

Thrsdy Jan.3.2008 12:52pm | by settlement heart

Congratulations to the elegant crooks who dominated the gambling room at Dewar’s Repeal Day last month. At the end of the night they cashed in their mostly legitimately-won chips for beauty, art and threads.

Chris Roan bought himself a trim and a shave at Frank’s Chop Shop.

Maura Rockcastle took home a bundle of fine rags from Marc Ecko.

Jeremy Poster bought a limited edition photography print by Phil Toledano.

Lupe Ramos has a new Sheppard Fairey print to hang on his wall; so does Michelle Lindsay.

Tate Reynolds check out with a pair…

The Rosewood Thieves show at Tonic

Mndy Mar.26.2007 5:14pm | by settlement heart

The Rosewood Thieves, the NYC-based quintet who provided the soundtrack to LVHRD’s Repeal Day in December, are playing their first show of the year at Tonic on Thursday, March 29th, at 9pm.

Their debut EP, From the Decker House, subtle and warm, offers sounds in the vein of Johnny Cash and The Band to fit you like a pair of worn-in jeans. From the Decker House will be re-issued in May to prepare you for a brand new EP release in June.

Lots of people have great things to say about The Thieves’…

Compliments of Dewar’s

Wdnsdy Feb.21.2007 8:01pm | by Mango Roosevelt

Two weeks ago we announced the winners with the most chips during Dewar’s Repeal Day and the losers were upset because they missed out on something so grand, so wonderful that it took three people and a van to deliver it. Some may say that to reward lying, cheating, and stealing will perpetuate shameful tactics, but we at LVHRD personally congratulated Deep Focus and Paper Magazine with a sweet customized arm wrestling table courtesy of Dewar’s. We hope that they will use this table for good and as a method of resolution in…

Dewar’s Repeal Day Winners

Tsdy Jan.30.2007 9:09pm | by chantal

Though it was last year, the hangover still lingers from the glory that was Dewar’s Repeal Day. On December 5, 2007 Dewar’s and LVHRD joined forces to celebrate a momentous event in American history… the End of Prohibition. It certainly deserves its own holiday.

In the spirit of the great heroes of Prohibition — the gangsters, boot leggers, and organized crime bosses who kept alcohol flowing during dry times — LVHRD invited New York’s “modern day gangsters” (those counter-cultural groups, organizations and publications who festively embody similar ideas of change) to…

Tobi Elkin’s on The Wire

Mndy Jan.29.2007 10:52am | by Mango Roosevelt

Drawing Inspiration, an article written by LVHRD member Tobi Elkin has just been sent to wire and is being featured on asap. Maybe it was Dewar’s Repeal Day that jolted her pen to paper or perhaps it was for the love of pasties, but Tobi’s article features artist/burlesque dancer Molly Crabapple.

Crabapple is a woman that wears many hats, even when she is wearing close to nothing at all. A former art student, she began working as a nude model and eventually made her way into burlesque. While preforming for major…

From the Decker House to your Ipod: The Rosewood Thieves EP

Thrsdy Jan.4.2007 12:36pm | by C.C. Valentine

Remember that great band that was there at our Repeal Day Event? How they crooned and we all swooned, listening to Erick Jordan’s whispery, Elliot Smith-esque vocals and the harmonious blending of guitars, organs, and drums? Remember? We all had so much fun.

Oh, you weren’t there? Maybe you should come to the LVHRD events, then.

By the by, the band in question is The Rosewood Thieves, a gifted NYC-based quintet. Formed in 2004, which is now officially three years ago, The Thieves turned away from touring and spent the…

LVHRD Interviews HARVEST MOON

Wdnsdy Jan.3.2007 2:24pm | by Lint Fleecewood

LVHRD: Last we visited the AIM based DRTS series, we were learning about that Jah of all trades, Jeff Newelt. Now, we’re talking it up with burlesque dancer extraordinaire, Harvest Kristen Maria King, or just Harvest Moon for short. Harvest is interesting because she dabbles in so many different forms of dance that to strictly call her a burlesque dancer would be way off the mark. So, Harvest, before we start this NTRVW, please state your name, industry, job, and LVHRD event that you performed at.
Harvest Moon: Harvest “Moon” King, Massage…

Seth Herzog’s Annual New Year’s Bash

Wdnsdy Dec.27.2006 5:42pm | by Lint Fleecewood

Taking place at Fontana’s in the Lower East Side (no longer at Tai - Tai closed its doors - forget about Tai) is Seth Herzog’s annual New Year’s Eve Party. Starting at 9:30 and going way into the 2 double 0 7, dress attire is optional, so you can wear anything from your Sunday best to your 90’s grunge era flannel shirt. Just not your birthday suit (unless, of course, it’s a dance routine involving a thin curtain, a back light, and a James Bond theme song…).

Ten dollars gets you into the…

LVHRD VDO: 017: DRDXXX 1.0

Thrsdy Dec.14.2006 11:59pm | by chantal

On Tuesday, December 5th, LVHRD and Dewar’s invited New York’s most prominent gangsters and their crews to celebrate Repeal Day, the official end of Prohibition. Guests were met by hired henchman on street corners throughout the city, put into limosines, and safely shuttled to the party’s undisclosed location at The Players Club on Gramercy Park. All guests were given pouches of chips, and rival gangs were encouraged to gamble, barter, beg, and steal to end the night with the most tokens. Arm wrestling tables were placed throughout the venue to help gang…
